Hi!
Lucia Marcano here.
Curious photographer and artichoke lover.
I was born in the city crossed by the Seine, grew up just 45 minutes from the Caribbean Sea, spent meaningful time along the banks of the Hudson River, and lived my most formative years in the city where the Manzanares flows. These days, I’m discovering the rhythm of the Rhine from Cologne, where I’m currently based.
I work at the intersection of emotion, my surroundings, and storytelling. My practice is grounded in personal curiosity and shaped by a lifelong relationship with movement: between places, languages, and ways of seeing.
I approach photography as a visual logbook of things I feel more than I can name. My work doesn’t aim to document facts, but rather to build memory through a subjective, sometimes distorted gaze. I call it “futuristic nostalgia”. The photographic impulse often arrives mid-emotion or at the sight of unexpected beauty while traveling, on daily urban encounters or around family.
My images are often described as cinematic, intuitive, and quietly expressive, with a strong sense of stillness and atmosphere. I pay close attention to light and visual rhythm, whether I’m photographing people, fashion, or my surroundings.
I’m shaped by all the cultures I’ve absorbed, blended with a pinch of salt. My brain is happily confused by the languages I carry.
On assignment, I work across lifestyle, fashion, portrait, and travel stories. I’ve collaborated with editorial teams, creative directors, and brands in Europe. My clients value a sensitive visual approach, a flexible working style, and clear visual storytelling. Assignments for Condé Nast Traveler remain among my favorites, allowing me to combine photography, travel, and human connection.
Teaching is another important part of my practice. I regularly lead workshops and classes, online and in person, at the Roberto Mata School of Photography in Miami, and occasionally in Madrid. Teaching feels like a natural extension of my work: a way to share what I’ve learned and to stay in dialogue with others.
In addition to photography, I’ve co-founded two creative platforms that expand my practice beyond the frame:
